The Research Council (TRC) in Oman said that the Innovation Park Muscat (IPM), an ambitious national project considered to be an addition to the region’s Science and Technology Parks (STP), is expected to play a major role in transforming the country to a knowledge-based society. The first multi-sectorial STP in the Sultanate, which is being built next to the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), will be operational by the end of 2015. The IPM will be a powerhouse of state-of-the-art research and development facility while maintaining strong links with academia, business and the industry in the country. Additionally, a plethora of international research institutes will be located at the heart of the park with meeting rooms and auditorium as part of the facility, Oman Daily Observer reported. As a boost to the start-ups and SMEs in the country, they will be provided with a range of business support programmes while a number of attractive packages will be designed for R&D centres supported by government.
