Kuwait may set up telecoms regulatory body

: Saturday, March 08 - 2014 @ 12:20

Kuwaiti lawmakers have approved the first reading of a bill to create the Gulf country’s first independent telecoms watchdog, a move that could lead to further liberalisation of the sector, Reuters has reported. Kuwait is the only Gulf Arab country without a telecoms regulator, with the country’s fixed-line infrastructure owned and operated by the communications ministry. If a telecoms regulator is created it may show a desire by the government to revive plans to privatise the fixed network, something which has been under consideration for more than 20 years, the report said.
