In cooperation with the Information and Communications Association of Jordan (int@j) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Umniah successfully concluded the fifth wave of its acceleration program with Plug and Play.

The initiative allows entrepreneurs to attend a three-month training program in Silicon Valley offering industrial guidance and opportunities to meet with global investors

Several Jordanian companies participated in the fifth wave and in the pitching event that took place last week. Fierce competition among the participants resulted in the selection of three companies by a jury panel represented by local and international officials and included representatives from Jordan-based companies operating in the ICT sector. The victorious companies are the following: Madfoo3atCom, Beladcom Studios, and FoodLve.

The selected companies are now qualified to attend the acceleration program in Silicon Valley, which was launched last summer under the name of “U Start” in cooperation with the Information and Communications Association of Jordan (int@j) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The CEO of Umniah, Ihab Hinnawi, commented on the latest achievement saying: “We are greatly committed to helping ICT-based entrepreneurs develop their skills and ideas. Our initiative with Plug and Play is the greatest proof of this, as its main objectives are to boost international support for local companies and help market their ideas on a global level.”

Mr. Hinnawi continued, “We hope that the companies selected during the fifth wave will benefit as much as previous companies have from the international experience that they gain in Silicon Valley.”

The CEO at int@j, Abed Shamlawi, stressed the importance of promoting entrepreneurship in the Kingdom, explaining that it is a significant positive force in the development of the ICT sector, which in turn benefits the wider Jordanian economy.

It is worth mentioning that during His Majesty King Abdullah II’s economic visit to the United States last May, Umniah and Plug and Play signed an agreement with the goal of establishing an innovation center in Jordan that would help the international incubator to coordinate and intensify its presence in the country. The agreement also seeks to bridge the gap between Jordan-based companies and the United States.
