Egypt’s tourism revenues down 66%

: Thursday, April 10 - 2014 @ 13:25

Egyptian finance ministry has said revenues from the country’s tourism sector in the first half of fiscal year 2013/2014 fell 66% year-on-year to $1.9bn, Daily News Egypt has reported. The sector struggled in 2013 after many European and foreign governments warned travel agencies in August to stop selling holiday packages to Egypt amid rising fears of violence after the dispersal of a sit-in held by supporters of former president Mohamed Mursi. According to figures released by the state-owned Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS), tourist arrival in January saw a 28.9% year-on-year drop.
