The Spanish Ineco, a transport engineering and consultancy firm, has proposed the creation of a single transport authority for Muscat. The authority will act as a unifying body and help in the development of strategic transport planning, Zawya has reported. The firm plans to analyse the current situation using a multimodal approach, propose the network’s design and define the key management strategies, including a revision of existing legislation. It has also proposed the creation of a single transport authority and an analysis of the fare policy. “The goal is to design an efficient, modern and high quality public transport system and encourage its use by getting citizens to see it as an alternative to private cars. The strategies proposed will cover all transport modes and will be underpinned by an exhaustive data compilation and analysis process, using information gleaned from all institutions involved, both public and private,” said the consultancy firm in an official newsletter.
