The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that its smart kiosks have received about 73 thousand transactions since the inauguration of the service last December, and plans are being hatched to step up the capacity of these kiosks by adding a number of other services. The move is part of RTA’s relentless endeavours to improve the service delivery channels to keep pace with the needs and expectations of customers, and respond to the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform the Dubai Government into a smart government that seeks to bring happiness to people through meeting their requirements in a smooth and handy manner 24 hours a day, and in concurrence with the drive of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart Government Program.
Ahmed Mahboob, Director of RTA’s Customers Service, said: “The smart kiosk is part of our strategy towards enhancing customers’ satisfaction in terms of saving time & effort in processing their transactions at the RTA. Having customers entering around 73 thousand transactions through these kiosks within a few months translates into a welcome gesture to this service; which warrants framing up a plan for performance enhancement. The RTA is currently working on a plan through which a host of new services will be provided through smart kiosks. Moreover, 10 new machines will be installed in various locations over and above the existing machines at the Customers Service Centers at Deira, Umm Al Ramool, Al Barsha, Al Tawar Registration Center and the Jumeirah Beach.
“The plan also envisages placing kiosks at RTA customers’ service centers as well as key centers of service providers, and installing kiosks outside the premises of customers’ service centers to offer clients access to them around-the-clock. It also includes developing other payment means besides the credit card which is currently in use, such as the NFC technology in smart-phones, NOL cards, and the e-purse.
“The smart kiosk is the first of its kind across the Dubai Government level that benefits from the database of the customer’s ID card, and accordingly facilitates the transaction processing rather than obliging the customer to appear in person to the front-end staffs. Moreover, the device is fitted with a camera-cum-phone to offer instant audio-visual assistance in case the customer experiences any procedural or technical glitch.
Role of the Smart Kiosk
The smart kiosk is a device fitted with a smart technology enabling customers to process transactions themselves without seeking assistance of the service employee. The array of services provided through the system include To Whom It May Concern Certificates relating to licensing matters, inquiry after / payment of offences, and renewing / issuing replacement of lost driving licenses & vehicle registration cards. The devices offer a channel for delivering documents to the customer upon receiving the transaction through the kiosk directly such as printing the registration card. Three options are provided to the customer: pay 20 dirham to collect the transaction deliverable through the express mail, customers service center selected by the client, or direct receipt from the kiosk.
