Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Trade, the premier cross-border trade facilitator under Dubai World, has successfully celebrated its 6th E-Services Excellence Award (ESEA) as an initiative to reward and recognize the top e-Services performers in the trade & logistics industry.
The ESEA features a new theme every year which targets a particular e-Service with the main aim of encouraging the conversion to online and award the highest performers.
Entitled the theme of “Appreciating e-Transformation in Trade & Logistics”, 6th ESEA winners were selected based on a precise criteria that reflects their preserved growth in e-Services adoption on the Dubai Trade Portal during the year of 2013.
H.E. Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Chairman of Dubai Trade, commented, “ESEA has not only brought greater transparency, efficiency and innovation to the trade processes, but also international recognition to the country. We believe ESEA is another step towards further encouraging the trading community to enhance the use of Dubai Trade’s e-Services and achieve higher productivity in their operations.”
Online users enhance e-Services adoption
The rapid growth of registered users in the past few years is testament to the popularity of the electronic trading platform and indicative of the evolution of local commerce. With the advent of internet technology, business has escalated to newer heights bridging and enabling more efficient transactions between buyers, sellers, exporters and importers. Dubai Trade’s e-Services have facilitated procedures, reduced processing time and cost and vastly improved efficiency and transparency.
Commenting on the superb improvement of e-Services, Eng. Mahmood Al Bastaki, CEO of Dubai Trade, emphasized, “Performance figures have almost exceeded our expectations. Thanks to strategic growth planning, implementation of the best practices and continuous upgrade of customer-focused solutions, we succeeded in winning customers’ confidence and building excellent reputation, which is creating a ripple effect in bringing on-board bigger numbers of companies.”
The impressive growth in the number of registered users also affected the number of transactions carried out over the Dubai Trade Portal. Dubai Trade’s e-transactions grew by 13% in 2013 when compared with the year 2012. Total number of e-transactions increased from 14.9 million in 2012 to 16.9 million in 2013.
E-Services for Better Communication in MENA
Some of the MENA countries, including UAE, have made signiﬁcant progress in adopting and implementing e-Services in trade and logistics activities. Furthermore, their consistently improving e-government rankings attest to their innovative ways of practicing e-Services. It is important to note that although MENA countries lag behind the world in some key areas of e-Services, they are still competent enough trying to provide access to deliver e-Services to their citizens.
In regards, Dubai Trade encourages the rest of countries in MENA region to prompt the adoption of the Internet to access the various e-Services in trade activities.
“We hope that all the governments in the MENA region will abide by the path of technology and wish them success as a result of gain in knowledge and information. Aimed at promoting e-Services culture, we also encourage all governments to come up with initiatives to reward the most active companies that use online services in trade activities,” said Al Bastaki.
While Bin Thaniah also pointed out that e-Services and applications will contribute to not only changing Dubai but the whole MENA region into an integrated, knowledge-based region in the 21st century and we should achieve results that will comply with the leadership’s aspirations that facilitate all trade transactions.
