US presidential candidate Donald Trump is controversial, to say the least.

But, at the same time, he is also an immensely successful business mogul, whose long journey is worth exploring and may yield clues to understanding who he is today.

Here are some defining moments in Trump’s personal and professional life.

Donald Trump was born in 1946 in the Jamaica Estates to Friedrich Trump, of German origin, and Mary Trump, of Scottish origin.

He attended the Kew-Forest School, where his father, who by then was a wealthy real estate developer, served as a member on the Board of Trustees.

Trump reportedly left school at the age of 13 and was enrolled in the New York Military Academy. (Image: Wikimedia)

In 1964, Trump attended Fordham University in the Bronx for two years, before transferring to Wharton school of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania, from where he graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor’s of Science and Economics.

Throughout his years of education, Trump also worked at the family company, Elizabeth Trump & Sons, which would later be named “The Trump Organization”. (University of Pennsylvania. Image: Alamy)
