Course Instructors:
David is a mechanical engineer who has worked as a commercial Manager/Director in the onshore and offshore construction industry for the past 40 years. He worked for major oil companies in the UK, the Middle East and the Far East on a large number of offshore oil and gas projects.

Steven is an Advocate, Barrister and Attorney with Selborne Chambers, London. He is a commercial lawyer with a specialisation in international arbitration, energy, construction & engineering and commercial disputes and the Legal 500 has ranked him as a leading individual in international arbitration in 2013.

Course Description

This 3-day course is designed to introduce both lawyers and nonlawyers alike to the understanding of how to arrange and manage EPC contracts and how to avoid and manage disputes.

The emphasis of the conference will be to provide a practical understanding of the contracting process including contract selection, tendering, negotiation, contract preparation, contract management together with a section on the effective management and resolution of disputes.

Topics covered will include standard forms of contract, negotiation, contract management and dispute resolution.

This course is aimed at those who are interested in acquiring a detailed understanding of how to negotiate EPC contracts, what the clauses are for and how you can best use them together with the knowledge of the legal environment which facilitates such a process. This course is delivered by combining a substantive legal understanding together with a practitioner’s perspective.

The course is delivered using power point presentations, case studies and exercises and is an interactive mix of theory and practical from a practitioner’s perspective. The case study each day covers preparation of the EPC enquiry document, negotiation and arbitration.
