The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) held a networking lunch and panel discussion in Kuwait recently themed ‘Bringing Best Practice to Kuwait: Raising the Standard and the Status of the Profession’.
The event brought together industry professionals to discuss ways to support existing practitioners, as well as to raise awareness among corporates and other organisations about the benefits of professionally-conducted procurement and supply management practice.
Representatives from some of the leading global and Kuwaiti institutions such as EQUATE and Huawei as well as local companies like Mushrif Trading attended the event and participated in the panel discussion which focused on how to raise the profile of procurement and supply chain professionals in the country.
The results of the discussion led to a consensus that CIPS can expand its support for the profession and customize the role that it plays globally in improving the appeal of the profession among talented graduates, as well as in raising the profile of this discipline among top management professionals.
Attendees as well as panellists agreed that starting a CIPS branch in Kuwait would be instrumental in providing support and inspiration to graduates looking to develop a career in procurement and supply management through education, certification, and the creation of collaboration and networking opportunities. This would facilitate the dissemination of best practices, as well as the promotion of education and networking for members and prospects.
Rebecca Fox, General Manager, CIPS MENA (Middle East & North Africa) said, “There is a healthy appetite in Kuwait for the profession to be conducted according to the highest international standards in organisations of all kinds and in all sectors. Professionals in the country are keen to nurture and develop this discipline, and we can play an instrumental part in advising and supporting them across various industries. Since we started providing service and training to organizations and professionals across the Middle East, we have seen strong levels of commitment to creating sustainable supply chains, and to the creation of employment opportunities for graduates.”
