During the 39th Annual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum,Deputy Ruler of Dubai and the UAE Minister of Finance, attended meetings with HE Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali, President of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft and Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the President of IDB discussed joint initiatives between the UAE and IDB, and the country’s contribution to the Bank’s capital.
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum also attended a signing ceremony for a new agreement between the Islamic Development Bank and the United Arab Emirates. The agreement was signed byHE Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, on behalf of the UAE, and by HE Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ali, President of IDB, on behalf of the Bank,to provide vital support to the International Centre of Biosaline Agriculture.
The meeting betweenHH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Bill Gates included are view of the UAE’s philanthropic contributions.The UAE’s contributions amount to 3.4% of its gross domestic product (GDP),further establishing the country as one of the world’s leading providers of foreign aid.
Both parties also discussed potential ways to strengthen cooperation between the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and philanthropic organisations in the UAE, totackle both poliomyelitis and poverty across the globe.
