Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), the flagship free zone operation of Economic Zones World (EZW), hosted its annual gala dinner on Tuesday, March 11, at Al Badia Golf Club, Dubai Festival City, to celebrate Dubai and the Free Zone’s landmark achievements in 2013 and their unfettered pursuit of excellence across the years which helped them stand among the world’s most dynamic countries and the free zones.
The annual event was attended by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Department of Civil Aviation, Dubai, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Group and Chairman of Dubai World; the top EZW Management and Board Members including Salma Hareb, Chief Executive Officer, high-level government officials, strategic partners and key customers.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum witnessed the Free Zone’ futuristic concept of “Delivery by Jafza” using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Through this initiative, Jafza seeks to use technology to further augment its delivery system to ensure faster execution of transactions.
Salma Hareb, CEO of EZW, welcomed the distinguished guests attending the event. In her welcome address she stressed on the significance and the tremendous strength of the spirit of working together, united by a vision that has led to unique achievements of Dubai and the Free Zone.
Addressing the strategic partners and customers Salma Hareb said: “Today, we celebrate YOU, the leaders of our business and Dubai community. Today we celebrate your innovative journey and accomplishments. We all know that innovations can be created within an organization or a small team; but innovations created beyond an organization boundary bring lasting and more impactful results to each contributor and the group as a whole.
“The best example is winning the bid of Expo 2020! A proud moment for Dubai! Many organizations collaborated, guided by our leader. All UAE nationals, residents of Dubai and the UAE, and nations beyond our boundary shared the spirit. That is the spirit of working together, united by a vision.
“Another example is the development of Dubai Logistics Corridor. We removed our organizational boundaries and took a single view. We transformed disconnected units, to a powerful value proposition: a Single Customs Bonded Area with access to sea, air, and land: one of its kinds in the whole world.
“And a recent example when we and Dubai Customs partnered together to launch the first purpose built Smart Retail Hub in the world named “Matajircom”.
She elaborated on Dubai’s distinguished achievements in the year including the evolution of Dubai as the home of the 2nd busiest airport and the home of the largest semi-automated container terminal in the world, as well as, the emergence of Dubai Duty Free as the largest airport retailer.
She also dwelled on Dubai’s several ambitious projects such as “Developing Dubai as a hub for Islamic Economy”, turning Dubai into a “Smart City”, the first in the region, and the initiative to develop the Emirate into a Green city, launched in 2013.
Salma Hareb, commenting on the significance of being Number One, said: “For us, being number one means the power to think beyond today’s boundaries. It is the power to accept and overcome the challenges of today, and to see within them opportunities for the future. It is the power to see strength and allies within groups one has never thought about. It is the power to relentlessly pursue excellence. I am proud to say that we, at Jafza, are living the pursuit of Number One.”
She reiterated Jafza’s crowning achievements as the number one Free Zone in terms of business model and its role in the development of the country and the region’s economic growth; being the first Free Zone to be ISO certified; the first Free Zone to introduce e-services platform; and the first Free Zone to introduce Mobile App.
“These achievements, though a source of satisfaction, are just milestones in our continued journey to achieve excellence and remain Number One, in whatever we do,” she said.
In 2013 Jafza has achieved record growth in terms of new companies by adding over 600 multinationals into its ecosystem. Jafza is at present, home to more than 7,300 leading companies from 125 countries with more than 120 of the Global Fortune 500 enterprises continually testing and proving the efficiency of its business model. In 2013, these companies together, are estimated to have generated trade worth more than $90bn.
Attended by more than 400 guests, the gala dinner included multi-cultural dance performances, firework and comedy show.
The Jafza annual gala dinner provides a platform to Jafza team, Jafza’s key customers and Jafza’s strategic partners to interact and share their thoughts, ideas and experiences with each other to continue moving forward on the path of shared growth and accomplishments.
