Oman jails former minister for corruption

An Omani court has handed a three-year prison sentence to a former commerce minister for corruption, the highest-ranking government figure to be convicted in a campaign against graft in the sultanate, Reuters has reported. The Muscat’s Court of First Instance found Mohammed bin Nasir Al-Khusaibi guilty of paying $1m in bribes to the ex-undersecretary of the transport and communication ministry for civil aviation to win a contract for the first phase of the Muscat International Airport. Al-Khusaibi was also fined OR800,000 ($2.08m).
