Tamkeen’s Chairman and Acting Chief Executive, His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa, has issued an executive resolution on the establishment of an Equal Opportunity Committee in Tamkeen to integrate the needs of working Bahraini women into the framework of equal opportunities in all work areas within Tamkeen.
The Equal Opportunity Committee seeks to enhance equal opportunities among employees on the issues of employment, training, scholarships, and job promotions; take the needs of working women into consideration; integrate women’s needs into an equal opportunities framework for Tamkeen’s policies, plans, and budgets; and build the capacity of employees in the area of integrating women needs.
The committee comprising of the Head of Marketing Communications Department Hala Ahmed Sulaiman, the Head of Planning and Business Development Dr. Nasser Ali Qaedi, and the head of Human Resources Abeer Abdullah Al-Matooq held its first meeting to discuss a number of proposals and review the Supreme Council for Women’s National Development Strategy for the Integration of Women’s Needs. It was agreed that the principle of equal opportunities among all employees, beneficiaries, and services provided by Tamkeen will be continued. The committee also plans to conduct a number of research studies and surveys concerning the work environment, home environment, attitudes at the workplace, in addition to comparing benefits for Women Employees, Health Insurance, amongst others in the workplace.
The committee’s mission is to set standards and draw up plans to ensure equal opportunities and fully integrate women’s needs. The committee will also work to improve women’s status and work environment, overcome the challenges that hinder the implementation of the equal opportunity principle, and provide consultation in coordination with the Supreme Council for Women.
Tamkeen’s Chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa praised efforts to develop Bahraini women, within the Women’s National Development strategy for the Integration of Women’s Needs, led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King of Bahrain and President of the Supreme Council for Women, focusing on Bahraini women and working to strengthen the leading role of working women on all levels and across all sectors.
Maintaining that Bahraini women have proved their capability to achieve in various professional and scientific fields, His Excellency said the Equal Opportunity Committee will propose ideas and will work to ensure equal opportunities for both genders and further enlighten female employees about their legal and constitutional rights and duties, in addition to preparing leaders who can provide customer-focused, results driven and quality services.
The establishment of Tamkeen’s Equal Opportunity Committee is part of the effort to empower women, who make up about 50% of Tamkeen’s workforce, with those occupying management posts constituting 44% of the management team. Tamkeen, which won Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa’s Award for Women Empowerment in 2009, will continue to safeguard women achievements and support Bahraini women.
