The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) 2014, held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, and hosted by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in association with World Climate Ltd, commences this week (15-16 April) under the theme of ‘Global Partnerships, Sustainable Future’.
The Summit is the MENA region’s first event based on improving the profitability of sustainability practices, products and services, and falls in line with HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision to build a green economy for sustainable development in the UAE.
Speaking ahead of the Summit, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said, “The World Green Economy Summit is an extremely important step towards driving the UAE’s development into a green economy, through investment, green partnerships and the creation of a global market for green products, technologies and services. The Summit falls in line with HH Sheikh Mohammed’s bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s initiative ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’, the ‘Dubai Green Economy Partnership’ launched by HH Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, The Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council, as well as the UAE’s Vision 2021, aiming to achieve balanced growth through a package of sustainable sources of energy.”

The opening ceremony will be followed by plenary and breakout sessions, including ‘Success in Green Public Private Partnership’, ‘Smart Cities – Smart Infrastructure’ and ‘Road to Paris 2015′. Day two of the Summit will include plenary sessions titled ‘Private Financing for the Green Economy’, ‘The Youth and Green Innovation’ and the closing session, ‘Dubai 2020 and Creating the Green Economy Market Place’.
