Abu Dhabi University has announced that H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and President of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Regents, will award 20 scholarships to the top achieving high school students from the twelfth grade, for their outstanding academic performance during the year 2013 -2014.
The “Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed” scholarship allows students to enroll in any of Abu Dhabi University’s 24 undergraduate programs offered on both Abu Dhabi and Al Ain campuses, and covers university tuition and fees for each semester that a student is enrolled.
Commenting on this initiative, H.E Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri Chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Directors stressed the importance of these scholarships that have been generously provided since 2009 to top scoring senior high school students by H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and President of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Regents.
“These scholarships play a vital role in encouraging those outstanding students to continue striving for excellence and commence their journey of pursuing higher education at one of the nation’s most prestigious national universities; Abu Dhabi University.
The initiative also naturally corresponds with Abu Dhabi University’s philosophy of attracting distinguished students from all over the UAE to continue developing specialized cadres that contribute to the national development process and meet the requirements of the Policy Agenda of the Government of Abu Dhabi and its Economic Vision 2030″, explained Bin Harmal.
Bin Harmal lauded the role that the “Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed” scholarships has played in encouraging students to put more effort into achieving academic excellence.
“It has also succeeded in promoting good sportsmanship values and developed a healthy competitiveness between Grade 12 students who have worked hard to be awarded this prestigious scholarship, allowing them to enroll in any of Abu Dhabi University’s diverse undergraduate programs. These programs are offered in various areas such as engineering, arts, humanities and environmental sciences, business administration, information technology, languages as well as many other disciplines the University is looking to offer once they have been accredited by the Commission of Accreditation at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, including law and pharmacy amongst others”, added Bin Harmal.
On his part, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University urged students to preserve their successful academic achievement throughout the four years of the scholarship. He pointed out that the students must be committed to maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.70, and a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester to continue receiving this prestigious scholarship.
“The announcement of the “Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Scholarships” also coincide with Abu Dhabi University’s recent launch of its new five-year strategic plan 2014 -2019, which includes several new academic initiatives in teaching, scientific research and community service. Placing students’ interest at the center of the educational process in a manner that contributes to their intellectual and professional growth, the new strategic plan aims at achieving operational and academic excellence on every level by continuing to attract top achieving students and distinguished faculty members from the finest institutions of higher education around the world. ADU’s 2nd five-year strategic plan also oversees the inauguration of several centers of excellence in scientific research in collaboration with business and industry sectors, as well as striving to achieve a higher rank in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) top 650 universities in the world,” concluded Dr. Ibrahim.
