Marking its 20th anniversary this year, the TESOL Arabia event has become a must-go occasion for many English language-teaching professionals, as it offers opportunity to learn about the latest research in the field, share knowledge and views and interact with service providers and potential employers.
This year pre-conference course offered on March 12th will witness the cooperation between IDP IELTS and the British Council. The 1-day course titled “IELTS and the Language Teacher” will be presented by Marilyn Cleland from IDP IELTS, and Sarah White, British Council. Participants will be introduced to the task types for listening and reading, and the sub-skills that teachers need to incorporate when designing classroom activities. The course is intended for teachers of courses leading to IELTS as well as those interested in the IELTS test for personal or professional reasons
As Sponsor Partner, IDP Education will also feature two Showcase Strand presentations by two IELTS experts Marilyn Cleland and Savino Sfregola. Marilyn has been involved with IELTS for many years. She has given IELTS-related presentations and workshops at TESOL and NAFSA in the USA and UAE, and is currently an IELTS Masterclass presenter for IDP Education in the UAE, Oman, Turkey and Egypt.Marilyn Cleland will be covering some of the most common knowledge gaps about IELTS in her presentation “Everything you wanted to know about IELTS”. The presentation offers authoritative answers to the real concerns of test-takers, with the aim of assisting TESOL teachers who prepare their students for this life-changing test. The second presentation by Savino Sfregola “IELTS Writing-Quick Fix for Band Six”, will profile features of Band 6 Writing for the Academic Module and propose ways to strategically prepare students needing to enhance test-day performance.Based in Saudi Arabia since 2009 Savino teaches English for Academic Purposeswriting with a focus on research and referencing in the undergraduate department of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. Savino has been involved with IELTS since 1998 in the Middle East, Australia, South-East and Central Asia.
