MasterCard and INJAZ partner to develop financial literacy and entrepreneurship amongst Qatari Youth

As part of its ongoing commitment to motivate and inspire the country’s youth, INJAZ Qatar, a non-profit organization and member of Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide,has partnered with MasterCard to encourage and develop work readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills amongst students in Qatar through the JA It’s My Business program.

The It’s My Business program will target approximately 100 students in Qatar during the 2013/14 academic year. The program was launched in 2012across the region as a joint collaboration between INJAZ and MasterCard to promote financial inclusion through the power of entrepreneurship, and to give youth an opportunity to achieve their full potential.

“We are proud to work with INJAZ Qatar to help the country’s youth reach their full potential through the It’s My Business program”, said Raghu Malhotra, Division President, Middle East and North Africa, MasterCard.”Through our partnership, we aim to develop a generation of educated and motivated young individuals who will be empowered to build a secure future for themselves and their families while making a positive contribution to their community.”

The It’s My Business! six-session program encompasses an entrepreneurship curriculum for students from grades seven through to nine and emphasizes entrepreneurship content while providing a strong focus on social studies, reading and writing skills.
Aysha Al Mudahka, Executive Director of INJAZ Qatar, said, “We are very grateful for MasterCard’s generous support. Through this program, students are encouraged to adopt entrepreneurial skills that support positive attitudes as they explore and enhance their career aspirations.We look forward to a sustained collaboration with MasterCard as we help a new generation of students develop their entrepreneurship skills.”

To date, INJAZ Qatarhas successfully carried out seven classes at the Roqayaa Preparatory School for Girls and Hamza Preparatory School for Boys.

“It was a great opportunity to participate in this program which positively benefits students by allowing them to enhance their imagination and creativity. Through this program, every student has managed to discover their hidden talents and this has resulted in somebrilliant ideas that truly demonstrate their entrepreneurial character,” said Abdelkhalek Ali from PricewaterhouseCoopers who volunteered to teach at Hamza Bin Abdul Mutaleb Preparatory School for Boys.

It’s My Business! encourages students to learn entrepreneurial skills through a variety of hands-on activities and technologies designed to support different learning styles. The program also enables students to gain a better understanding of the relationship between what they learn in school activities and their successful participation in a worldwide economy.

INJAZ Qatar offers a variety of programs which equip young people with entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy skills. The organization also facilitates links between private businesses and schools, allowing employees from different partner companies to teach the INJAZ curricula at various middle and secondary schools and universities in Qatar.
