Every year on April 22nd, more than one billion people take part in Earth Day. This Earth Day, Qatar Foundation International (QFI), a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization dedicated to connecting cultures and advancing global citizenship through education, is co-hosting a global, cross-cultural webcast with the Global Nomads Group (GNG) of New York. Students from Washington Latin Public Charter School in Washington D.C. will discuss sustainable agriculture with their peers at Al Resala Independent Secondary School for Girls in, Doha, Qatar on Earth Day, April 22, 2014.

The live webcast will be led by students who participated in the Exploring Science, Connecting Cultures: Road to Doha climate change classroom program held in partnership by QFI and GNG. Environmental expert Paige Tantillo, Co-Founder of Sprout Middle East, will join a guest panel to share insights and answer questions. The webcast – an hour-long program, broadcast live on the Global Nomads Group website – will begin at 8:30AM ET/ 3:30PM AST.

“Connecting cultures is an important goal for QFI,” said Maggie Mitchell Salem, QFI’s Executive Director. “What better way to connect young people from around the world than through discussions about issues that affect us all – the environment? And what better day to celebrate global citizenry than Earth Day?”

During the webcast, Washington Latin students will share their experience and showcase a vertical, edible garden that they previously developed. The students will provide details on the project, including its development, growth and progress, as well as the challenges and obstacles they faced throughout the process. Following the webcast, the students from Al Resala will create their own vertical garden with various plants and herbs provided by Sprout Middle East. Vertical garden materials have been provided by Woolly Pocket, a maker of lightweight, flexible, breathable, modular gardening containers.
