Qatar Science Leadership Program (QSLP), a Qatar Foundation Research & Development (QF R&D) initiative, once again took part in the recent 7th Annual Career Fair for Qatari Nationals Studying in the United Kingdom.

Organised by the Qatari Embassy in London last month, the career fair aimed to support hundreds of Qatari students enrolled in higher education in the UK. Bringing them together with various public and private organisations for potential employment and sponsorship upon graduation, the fair continued to prove successful in placing Qatari graduates in their national job market.

This year’s fair was attended by His Excellency Khalid Rashid Al Mansouri, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the UK, Dr Wyatt Hume, Executive Director of Education, Training and Development, QF R&D, and Abdulla Yousuf Al Mulla, Executive Director of Operations, QF R&D.

QSLP’s participation at the Career Fair provided Qatari students in the UK an opportunity to learn about Qatar’s growing research sector underpinned by the Qatar National Research Strategy. Dr Wyatt Hume said, “Our inaugural attendance at the UK career fair saw us recruit three students onto the QSLP Research Undergraduate Track last year, which is why we returned once again this year to garner further support for Qatar’s rapidly evolving research sector.”

Mohammad Al Sulaiti, aged 19, was one of QSLP’s recruits from last year’s career fair and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemical and environmental engineering at the University of Nottingham. “Through the QSLP programme, QF R&D presents Qatari youth, interested in scientific research, with a golden opportunity to give back to their country by contributing to its national vision,” he said. “Upon graduation I intend to specialise in the energy and environment field as it is a central area of focus for Qatar.”

QSLP mainly focuses on fields of scientific research of strategic importance to the needs of the State of Qatar and the wider Middle East and North African region, including technology, biomedicine, information technology, and social and human sciences.

Meanwhile, the UK career fair also provides Qatari organisations with an excellent opportunity to attract Qatari youth currently enrolled in various universities across the UK. In turn, it also allows graduates, and all other interested parties seeking employment in Qatar, a chance to directly communicate with the relevant recruitment centres.
