Small and Medium Enterprises Development Company ‘Enterprise Qatar’ (EQ) and INJAZ Qatar host a series of public-facing strategic activities designed to inspire a culture of entrepreneurialism and business innovation among Qatar’s youth.
Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with INJAZ Qatar, EQ is fully funding high-school participation in INJAZ Qatar’s Company Program™, which provides students with a unique opportunity to establish and run a real company. INJAZ Qatar’s corporate volunteers, alongside business advisors from EQ, are providing mentoring to hundreds of students in developing a business idea, raising capital and producing a product or service.
Commenting on how its wide-ranging strategic partnership is transforming the entrepreneurial culture within Qatar’s youth, Ibrahim Al Mannai, Director of Learning and Development at Enterprise Qatar said: “Enterprise Qatar promotes and supports the prosperity of the Small and Medium Enterprise sector in the country so we are thrilled to be supporting INJAZ Qatar in nurturing our youth to hone their skills as budding entrepreneurs and business leaders.”
Al Mannai continued, “Our constant support of this precious, young talent pool will not only drive economic development for Qatar and further afield, but will also enable the Small and Medium Enterprise sector to bloom and reach new heights.”
Last month, EQ and INJAZ Qatar celebrated the success of the Young Entrepreneurs Trade Fair, during which teams from 15 independent schools and universities sold their innovative products and services to shoppers at City Center Mall in West Bay.
The trade fair formed an integral part of INJAZ Qatar’s Annual Young Enterprise of the Year competition ‘Mubadara’, held on 10 and 11 May at Qatar University Center for Entrepreneurship and Hamad Bin Khalifa University Student Center respectively. Enterprise Qatar was the Strategic Partner for the 2014 competition, designed to help students set up and run a real organisation. Students competed for various awards in entrepreneurship, with the Best Marketing Plan Award and Best Young Entrepreneur Award also sponsored by EQ. The student companies at Mubadara were judged by a panel of high profile judges including EQ’s Director of Learning and Development, Mr Ibrahim Al Mannai and Mr Jassim Al Baker, Head of Development.
Following Mubadara, Enterprise Qatar will support INJAZ’s Start-Up Program, which is designed as a unique platform to launch innovative entrepreneurial team ventures. The Boeing-sponsored programme offers carefully selected teams made up of four to six members, a combination of seed funding, 20 hours of professional mentoring and incubation over a two year period offered by Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) in order to help viable enterprises grow and contribute towards the economic development of the country.
Aysha Al Mudahka, Executive Director of INJAZ Qatar, said: “Thanks to the generous support and commitment of Enterprise Qatar, this strategic partnership delivers a rewarding boost to our joint efforts to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders. We are excited to build on the success of our Company Program and Mubadara competition with the launch of our Start-Up Program this summer.”
Enterprise Qatar will contribute to the nurturing of entrepreneurial skills and the development of positive, creative mindsets that will help young people bring their start-up ideas to life via this innovative incubator-style program.”
