Hilton Worldwide hotels across the region celebrated the hospitality industry recently by participating in Careers@Hilton Live: Youth In Hospitality Month, the company’s largest ever global career event showcasing to young people the many opportunities available in the company.
Throughout the month, Hilton Worldwide hotels in Egypt took part in a host of events designed to inform and excite young people looking for employment and to highlight the valuable long-term job prospects and considerable opportunities that are available in the industry.
The month long initiative is part of Bright Blue Futures, a global program that encourages Team Members to donate their time and expertise to help young people achieve stability and prepare them for a brighter future.
In Egypt, nine Hilton Worldwide hotels took part in the initiative with a range of local community activities, including Ramses Hilton, Hilton Sharm Fayrouz Resort, Hilton Sharm Dreams Resort, Hilton Nuweiba Coral Resort, Hilton Pyramids Golf Resort, Hilton Sharm Waterfalls Resort, Hilton Cairo Zamalek Residences, Hilton Sharm Sharks Bay Resort and Hilton Hurghada Resort.
Globally, young people – the biggest demographic in the world – are facing serious challenges building and growing careers. This is also the case in Egypt, according to the Central Authority for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), unemployment rate increased to reach 13.4% in Q3 2013, compared to same period of 2010 (8.9%). Also according to CAPMAS, total number of Egyptian work force in Q3 2013 reached 27.2 million, 12.6% of which work in the tourism sector or related industries (as of 2012).. Globally, the travel and tourism industry is the world’s single largest employer, supporting one in every 11 jobs worldwide, and can potentially play a leading role in addressing the youth unemployment challenge.

Activities included partnerships with NGO’s such as:
o Al Nour Wal Amal – Annual product exhibition sponsorship to support the vocational work of the school for blind girls
o The Egyptian Food Bank/The Egyptian Bank for Education and Development – A three month hospitality training program across various hospitality disciplines in order to help prepare participants for a career in the industry
o Ana El Masry Foundation – Support vocational education and production workshops for youth as they develop skills that will allow them to compete in the labour market
• Cooperation with schools across Egypt including:
o The Cairo British School student book fair sponsorship
o The Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, 6 of October University and Nuweiba Technical School – Two-day job shadowing and training program
o El Fayrouz Secondary School, Dual School and other local secondary schools – Hospitality educational awareness day to showcase the day-to-day operations of the hospitality industry and inspire the next generation of hospitality ambassadors.
