The panel discussion on the third day of the on the Dubai International Project Management Forum presented by H.E. Helal Saeed Al Marri Director-General of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing cum CEO of Dubai World Trade Center, and managed by HE Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Secretary-General of the Emirates Competitiveness Council, entitled ‘Expo 2020′, highlighted the importance of hosting such international event in achieving competitiveness among countries in conducting business, developing and sustaining project.
“The successful bidding of Dubai to host Expo 2020, reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, about sustained national development to induce a brighter future in the UAE, no to forget the unlimited support by the UAE people which contributed to the hosting this event. Therefore, we had to work hard and plan well as how to receive this global event which will bring together countries from all parts of the world, through proper planning, cooperation and coordination with the various public & private entities of relevance, as regards establishing the infrastructure of the new city which will include large-scale and sustainable projects,” declared Al Marri
Al Marri further added, “Expo 2020 is an opportunity for acculturation among countries of the region and serves as a springboard for sustainable projects. It will also create job opportunities for young people, given that nearly 90 billion dirhams will be spent on the project which will remain a legacy for future generations. Therefore, the public and private sectors are required to speed up and innovate so that we can attract nearly 25 million visitors to the event. After the event, Expo 2020 site will be transformed into an educational & cultural venue and a key tourist landmark. Moreover, the innovative solutions and numerous partnerships forged as a result of this event will have a sustained impact on communities all over the world.
Regarding people’s concerns about potential traffic jams during implementation of infrastructure and the launch of the exhibition, HE Hilal Al Marri said, “Plans are in hand to address this aspect and prevent any traffic congestion on roads from and to the event. A strategic location has been designated to harbor the smart city for hosting Expo 2020 which is close to the airports and ports. We, in cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority, will work out appropriate solutions to prevent traffic jams on by revitalizing the use of mass transit means, visitors and the public to reduce the accumulation of private vehicles in the event area.”
