Peter Willats, a profound and influential figure in the progression of Lean practice around the world and a co-founder of the Kaizen Institute in Europe, will be in Oman to run a seminar on ‘Lean in Healthcare’ being organized by Advertising International Company DDB (ADINC DDB).
Scheduled for February 17, 2015 at the Grand Hormuz, the seminar will focus on how the adoption of lean at hospitals and clinics can bring about positive transformation and enhance service delivery. The seminar will cover ways to minimize waste and maximize resource utilization to achieve greater efficiencies in providing healthcare services.
The CEO of ADINC DDB, Ms. Radha Mukherji elaborates: ‘ Lean management is a fascinating concept, no longer restricted to just the manufacturing sector. The principles apply to every industry as Peter Willats vividly demonstrated in the ‘Lean is in’ seminar he ran for our clients in 2013 to introduce the concept of Lean. With Willats’ special passion for healthcare and wide experience with successfully implementing the adoption of lean practices across large hospitals in the UK, we thought the healthcare industry in Oman could benefit from his rich experience. Oman we understand has one of the best healthcare systems in the world, ranked 8th in the World Health Report 2000 and undoubtedly the ambition is to keep getting better. The timing for the ‘Lean in Healthcare’ seminar we believe is just right with the growing demand for quality healthcare, against the challenges of escalating costs and resource availability. We sincerely hope that healthcare professionals who attend, will take back valuable learnings from the seminar that they can apply immediately at their own hospital/clinic to advantage.’
Peter Willats is a Senior Adviser to the Lean Enterprise Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts and a Visiting Professor at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany. He is also associated with the National Health Service in England to work with 12 hospitals to reduce the waiting/treatment time for patients in their Emergency departments.
‘Lean helps in the elimination of waste and creation of value in any organization. At the ‘Lean in Healthcare’ seminar, we will take a look at healthcare operations through the Lean lens. We will discuss the technical side and the more important human aspect of this story. Many hospitals in the world have adopted Lean practices that have helped them to better utilize their resources and increase patient safety, thereby improving outcomes and increasing capacity without adding resources. I am keenly looking forward to this seminar’ concludes Peter Willats.
