Ambulatory Healthcare Services, a facility of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), has commenced the second edition of its ‘Win over Diabetes’ mobile clinic campaign in the emirate of Abu Dhabi with the first session taking place on March 4 at the Al Khazna Clinic.
The AHS campaign being conducted in collaboration with Novartis Pharma and the Emirates Diabetes Society, has offered free diabetes consultations on two pre-determined days across March, April and May at select clinics in Abu Dhabi. The clinics are being led by specialist physicians, and run from 8:00am to 3:00pm.
March saw the campaign successfully travel to the Khazna clinic were 22 patients were assessed, and the Shamkha clinic were a further 17 patients were assessed. Yesterday also saw the first of the April clinics take place at AHS Baniyas were a further 17 patients were assessed. Findings from the assessments so far resulted in four patients being referred for urgent ophthalmology management, and 13 patients having their treatments modified.
The mobile clinic will now travel to Al Ettihad clinic on April 29, and Bateen and Rowda Clinics on May 6 and May 27 respectively. The diabetes-related health services offered as part of the ‘Win over Diabetes’ campaign include nursing assessments, POCT (Random Blood Sugar and Haemoglobin A1C) to assess susceptibility to diabetes, retinal screening, medical consultation, dietary consultation and health education.

AHS is taking the ‘Win over Diabetes’ mobile clinic campaign to different parts of Abu Dhabi to raise public awareness that aims to delay the onset of diabetes-related complications. AHS considers raising the health and well-being standards of the people of Abu Dhabi as its prime responsibility. To all residents of Abu Dhabi, our plea is to eat right and to include at least 20 minutes of moderate-intensity activity into your daily routine.”
AHS conducted the first edition of its ‘Win over Diabetes’ campaign in 2013 at its healthcare centers in Al Ain. The initiative offered free diabetes consultations at the AHS clinics at Showaib, Sweihan, Al Faqa, Al Quaa, Mezyad, Al Hayer, Al Yahar, Al Khatim, Remah and Hilli in Al Ain. Out of a total of 122 patients who visited the various ‘Win over Diabetes’ mobile clinics last year during the five month campaign, 15 required urgent referral to retinal specialists, 11 were started on insulin due to uncontrolled diabetes and one patient was referred to the nephrologist due to late-stage kidney failure.
