The World Asthma Day is an event celebrated all over the world in collaboration with health care groups and asthma educators to raise awareness about asthma and improve asthma care throughout the world.
This year, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Ajman University of Science and Technology is taking part in this worldwide celebration by organizing an asthma-centered conference entitled: “Promoting awareness, screening, prevention and control of asthma in the UAE”, due to be held on Tuesday May 6th, 2014 at AUST campus. The conference is accredited by the Ministry of Health because of its unique program and activities, which include the presentation of researches for the first time in the UAE.
Prof. Abdul Azim Ahmed, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, remarked: “Asthma is spreading worldwide. We believe we have an ethical and moral responsibility towards our community to promote asthma awareness, screening, and prevention. I believe that this event will provide an opportunity for our distinguished speakers as well as the academicians and practitioners to advance their knowledge in this field.”
One of the conference’s events will discuss establishing the first asthma center in the UAE. The center’s objectives would be promoting asthma awareness, screening, prevention and control nationwide, along with providing advice for asthmatic people, and promoting research to find better treatments for the disease. It will also be an online resource for assistance and support to healthcare professionals and patients, providing information on asthma, its causes, diagnosis, treatment and medication, as well as hay fever and rhinitis, health news and publications, and the ideal lifestyle for asthmatic people.
A poster design competition has been announced for the event. The asthma-themed competition includes three categories: Best Posterfor Ajman University, Best Poster for Ajman and Sharjah Schools and Best Posterfor Pharmacy Colleges.
