The department of Obstetrics Medicine of Corniche Hospital recently organized the 5th Obstetric Medicine Conference that focused on “Medical problems in Pregnancy’ in its hospital.
The annual conference is part of an on-going education program, combined with the multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach of consultants from Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) and Mafraq to improve patients’ care and the outcome of pregnancies. The conference, offered to Corniche, SEHA and private entity medical professionals noted an excellent response from the medical community. More than 120 prominent obstetricians, gynaecologists, anaesthesiologists, midwives and other health care professionals from medical centers across the UAE attended the conference.
One of the conference highlights was the noted international speaker, Professor Catherine Nelson-Piercy, Consultant Obstetrician Physician Guys’, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital, UK and President of the International Society of Obstetric Medicine (ISOM) who presented Connective Tissue Disorders in Pregnancy.
“I am pleased to be a part of this educational opportunity designed to enable sharing of evidenced-based practices between health care providers and elevate the standards in maternal and newborn healthcare,” said Professor Catherine Nelson-Piercy, who has played a key role in assisting Corniche Hospital achieve accreditation to be the first and the only unit outside the UK to offer the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM) training in Obstetric/ Maternal Medicine.
Corniche Hospital’s Chair and Consultant of Fetal Medicine Dr. Leanne Bricker spoke about “The Fetus in Maternal Diseases’ in her presentation. The other presenters included
Dr. Rola Shaheen, Chief of Women’s Imaging, Mafraq Hospital; Dr. Mohamed Hassan, Consultant Nephrologist & Chief of Division of Nephrology, SKMC; Dr. Taoufik Al Sadi, Consultant & Head of Neurology, SKMC and Dr. Abdel Rahman Nimeri, Director of Bariatric & Metabolic Institute Abu Dhabi, Chief Division of General Thoracic & Vascular Surgery, SKMC.
The participants examined the latest research and technical advances in the screening of women with complicated pregnancies. Topics covered in presentations and panel discussions included Obstetric Rheumatology, Fetal Medicine, Metabolic Disorders, Radiology, Nephrology, and Neurology.
