Electrical Appliances Unit of Dubai Central Laboratory at Dubai Municipality has renewed its agreement with International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC) for next three years (till 14 November 2016) upon its successful completion of the scheduled three year reassessment programme administered by the IECEE CB Scheme.
“Currently EAU is the approved CB Testing Lab for ESMA and Ministry of Environment, State of Qatar. We are proud of being the first lab of CB Testing in the Arab world and looking forward to achieve more and more in future,” Abdulrahman Mohammed Abdulla Al Ali, head of electrical appliances unit said.
“According to the certification of acceptance by IEC, the electrical appliances unit has been entitled to operate as a CB Testing Laboratory under the responsibility of ESMA as National Certification Body and to carry out testing within the IECEE CB Scheme for the product categories and standards as listed in the IECEE website in line with the terms and conditions,” Al Ali said.
“Main scope of our services includes home appliances (IEC 60335-1 Series), plugs and socket outlets (IEC 60884-1 Series), hand- held electric power tools (IEC 60745 Series) and trainings, in addition to miscellaneous services such as testing of ingress of protection, glow wire, ball pressure, cables resistance, environmental testing, live parts accessibility test…etc,” he said.
EAU has also announced a group of new and updated services in different areas of its jurisdiction. The newly introduced services include chemistry and physical testing in children’s finger paint and measuring the magnetic force in toys, microbiology testing for cosmetics and personal care products, heavy toxic metals test in textile and testing safety of households such as refrigerating and ice-cream appliances, ice-makers and similar appliances.
“EAU has excellent resources, and possesses skills to execute the aforesaid jobs. We are committed to customer support with a focus on quality and outstanding technical support. Our culture is based on professional integrity and values. The lab is facilitated with 294 testing equipments in 3400 m2 of testing area backed by 17 professional engineers in relevant areas,” he said. “EAU believes in continual improvement giving equal priority to quality, resources and clients. During last two years it has improved the number of equipments from 200 to 294, customers from 100 to 190, requests from 550 to 750 and reports from 500 to 690 showing a big leap in every field,” he explained.
It has also launched of an electronic service named ‘Laboratory Information Management System’.
Al Ali said, “The move comes as part of achieving the strategic goals of DCL by updating existing services and introducing new services to cope up with new development in different areas in line with the international best practices and services.”
