Philips is proud to announce its partnership with “Social Enterprise Week 2014″ (SOCENT) to amplify the message that individuals and organizations can be successful by creating innovative products and solutions to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges. Given the number of complex environmental, economic and social challenges in the region, it’s imperative to engage and support local entrepreneurs who can help address these issues.
SOCENT, which takes place the first week in March, provides a platform for people in the Middle East to become active agents of change in the critical fields of healthcare and the environment. Supporting the community in being able to comprehend these complexities, and nurturing their passion to help tackle the problems, are the first steps towards creating a more sustainable future through meaningful innovation.
The partnership with SOCENT is in line with Philips’ commitment to improving the lives of over 3 billion people, by 2025, through meaningful innovation. It also comes just a week after Philips reported Green Product sales accounting for 51% of total sales and reaching the company’s EcoVision 2015 sustainability performance target two years ahead of time.
“From our very beginning, Philips has been committed to innovation but, more importantly, innovation that solves people’s needs. We are inspired by the same passion we see in the SOCENT team and hope that we can together build on this mission in the Middle East,” said Roy Jakobs, CEO Philips Middle East and Turkey.
During SOCENT, Philips will sponsor the “Healthy Communities” evening on 5 March during which speakers from the fields of healthcare and the environment will discuss their work and how, through multi-stakeholder collaboration, we can tackle these issues with impact. The discussion will be held at an important landmark and Philips Lighting showcase, The Change Initiative, the most sustainable building in the world. The building which uses Philips LED lighting and controls was awarded LEED® Platinum certification in 2013.
“We are pleased to have a forward thinking company like Philips supporting SOCENT in 2014. It is through stakeholder collaboration which like-minded individuals and organizations that we can truly make a difference and generate social and environmental change,” said Fereshteh Amarsy, Founder at Social Enterprise Week.
