Aster DM Healthcare, the leading healthcare conglomerate in the Middle East and India, has announced its plans to roll out helpdesks in Oman for Aster Medcity- South Asia largest quaternary care hospital being set up in Kochi-Kerala, India. Aster Medcity, with an investment of $300 million, is spearheaded by Dr Azad Moopen, Chairman and Managing Director – Aster DM Healthcare.
The helpdesks for Aster MedCity will be set up at Aster Al Raffah Hospitals in Muscat and Sohar. Aster DM healthcare also would also provide opportunity for other private sector hospitals in Oman to open Medcity helpdesks in their facilities.
Aster MedCity, which underwent a soft launch of its Phase-1 in April, will be open to patients from May onwards with 575 beds to start with. The integrated medical township, which is dedicated to taking healthcare to international standards in India, will be a conglomeration of several super-specialty hospitals in one campus spreading over 40 acres of land along one kilometer waterfront for integrating nature with healing.
Dubbed unique as a global healthcare model with high-end infrastructure, cutting-edge medical technologies and excellent knowledge partnership with healthcare innovators from different parts of the world, the iconic medical city is a major healthcare destination in South Asia. The Aster Medcity will provide treatment for patients from all around the world and promote reverse brain drain of Indian healthcare professionals abroad.
Commenting on setting up the helpdesks for Aster Medcity in Oman, Dr Azad Moopen said, “We are proud to announce opening of helpdesks for Aster Medcity at Aster Al Raffah Hospitals in Oman, as well as other hospitals in the Sultanate. “The green-field project, ASTER Medcity located at Cheranallur in Kochi, will cover a 3.2 million Sqft built-up area in its first and second phases of the development. In the first phase, Aster Medcity will have a 575-bed master hospital, flanked by nine Centres of Excellence (CoE) for different super specialties. Aster Medcity will have a pool of internationally recognized doctors, researchers and medical professionals migrating back to India with their wealth of global expertise, skills and exposure
to the advanced knowledge garnered from top-ranked medical institutes across the world. Meanwhile, Aster Medcity will provide the best international standard treatments at the lowest cost in the subcontinent,” she added.
Adding to that, Aster Medcity CEO Dr. Harish Pillai said, “Kerala has had an enviable track record when it comes to delivering world standards of healthcare. In line with the strategies for Aster Medcity in Oman, Dr. Harish Pillai will deliver a speech titled “Input of Medcity to a large community” at the 2nd International Medical Tourism, Equipment & Technology Exhibition and Conference held at Oman International Exhibition Centre on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. A panel of world-renowned doctors from Aster Medcity conducted a Continued Medical Education (CME) programme on April 15 in Muscat as part of introducing the project in Oman.
“The CME addressed a range of topics including “Hybrid Techniques in cardiac surgery” by Dr. Manoj P Nair (Lead Consultant – Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery); “What is New in Management of Renal Failure?” by Dr. V. Narayanan Unni (Lead Consultant – Nephrology); “Advances in diagnosis and management of brain tumor” by Dr. Dilip Panikar (Lead Consultant – Neurosurgery); and “Recent Advances in Joint Replacements” by Dr. Vijayamohan S (Lead Consultant – Orthopedics),” added Ms. Seeniya.
A workforce including approximately 2,000 specialty doctors and other staff will be deployed for patient care in the first phase of the project. A high-end residential facility of about 1.5 million Sq.Ft. is also planned with an integrated township to accommodate a population of about 10,000 people. Aster Medcity will have intellectual and operational partnerships with international healthcare establishments like Johns Hopkins Medicine International- USA and The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto- Canada etc. This will facilitate bringing international quality, affordable and accessible healthcare to the local community as well as the people travelling to Kerala, which is popularly known as ‘Gods own Country.
Aster Medcity will cater to all segments of Patients across Diseases Emergencies and Disabilities. The multi specialty Hospital will provide all facilities under one roof and will consist of General
