Bee’ah – the Middle East’s leading integrated environmental and waste management company – offers a diverse portfolio of recycled rubber products, fully manufactured by the organization within the UAE.
These sustainable materials are created as a result of Bee’ah’s high-tech Tyre Recycling Facility – the first of its kind in the region – which uses an eco-friendly cryogenic process to recycle about 3 million used tyres a year and convert them into crumb rubber or crumb rubber tiles suitable for different applications and flooring products.
A number of schools, parks, athletic facilities, municipalities and equestrian areas across the emirate of Sharjah can significantly benefit from these tyre-derived sustainable materials. By recycling millions of pounds of scrap tyres annually, Bee’ah is also helping to save millions in raw material costs and keep scrap tyres out of landfills.
The provision of these environmental products is part and parcel of Bee’ah’s mission to promote sustainable practises in Sharjah and reconcile global eco-standards with local environmental needs. After all, discarded and scrap tyres consume valuable land space, act as a fire hazard, and, when included with garbage, provide a habitat for mosquitoes, rats and other vermin.

The cryogenic process – which, on average, lasts a total of 40 minutes – uses liquid nitrogen to flash freeze the tyres at minus 196 degrees Celsius. From there, they become brittle and are broken down like glass, by cracker mills, into crumb granules varying between 0.6mm to 4 mm in size.
Mega tyres used in industrial and construction vehicles can also be processed at Bee’ah’s Tyre Recycling Facility by employing an Oversize Tyre Reduction system (OTR) which breaks them down so that they can be fed into the shredder. Steel-belt radial tyres have the steel threads removed and sold as recycled material; the tyres, on the other hand, go through the regular breakdown process.
Recycled Rubber Mulch is used as rubber horse footing in arenas and pens. It is considered the safest and sturdiest flooring material for equestrian surfaces which provide optimum traction and shock-absorption that lessens the strain on horses and riders. In addition, Recycled Rubber Mulch reduces dust and mud, discourages insect and rodent infestation and reduces impact attenuation and injury risk in rider falls.
Crumb rubber and crumb rubber tiles can be used for different applications and flooring products in running tracks, grass-surfaced playing areas, stadium playing areas, miniature golf courses and in artificial turf infill in local schools, parks and athletic facilities.
In Sharjah, a total of 6,000 recycled tyres were used to make the 3,000 square metre running track in Al Majaz Waterfront Park. A floor was built at Al Qasba’s playarea using crumb rubber tiles made of around 1,500 tyres. Bee’ah is also using crumb rubber-blended asphalt to build new roads in Sharjah, as they are cost-effective and long-lasting. When applied, the rubber-modified surface absorbs most of the impact thus preventing strain on the body. Rubber tiles are suitable for both indoor and outdoor application, where impact reduction, proper access and safety are required.
