Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries (ORPIC) has selected LyondellBasell to deploy Spheripol polypropylene process technology for its 300,000 tpa Liwa Plastics Project to be built in Sohar, Oman Observer reported. ORPIC Liwa Plastics Project (LPP) General Manager Henk Pauw said: “We selected the LyondellBasell Spheripol process for its ability to cost-effectively produce a wide range of high-quality products that are demanded by our customers throughout the Middle East and South East Asia.” The Spheripol process will assist in manufacturing enhanced homopolymer, random and heterophasic copolymers. In addition to the Spheripol process, LyondellBasell’s polyolefin technologies and associated technical services portfolio comprises Spherizone, Metocene PP, Lupotech, Hostalen and Spherilene. Last month, Orpic signed five technology contracts worth $80m for different units of the $3.6 bn LPP, including NGL extraction, PyGas hydrogenation, MTBE, polypropylene and polyethylene units. Expected to be completed in 2018, LPP will produce 1.4 million tonnes of polyethylene and polypropylene each year.
