Power shortage forces Egyptian cement makers to cut production by 50%

The Egyptian cabinet has said blamed power shortages for the recent lower rates of cement production in the country that resulted in a wave of spiked prices, Daily News Egypt has reported. Medhat Stephanos, the head of the cement industry at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FDI) said the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co had reduced gas supply to cement plants by 50%, which resulted in an equal percentage of decline in cement production. The environmental affairs had said earlier it was studying the impact of using coal by cement makers as a source of energy.
