The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) announced the total number of Khareef Salalah visitors, both local and international, has grown by 170% standing at 203,171 visitors from June 21, 2014 through to August 6, 2014; as compared to 75,262 visitors over the same period last year. Omanis have represented 70.4% of the total number of visitors so far this year.
According to the updated figures, 58,048 visitors flew to Salalah, 51,235 via domestic flights and 6,813 via international flights, while the total number of visitors travelling to the Dhofar Region by road stood at 145,123.
The NCSI reveal that the majority of visitors within the recording period were GCC citizens, totaling 178,131; 46,458 of whom arrived via the airport (41,235 domestically and 5,223 internationally), while 131,673 arrived by road. Omanis comprised a majority of these visitors standing at 143,099, in second place were UAE citizens standing at 25,923; followed by 5,035 visitors of other Arab nationalities. The total number of visitors from Asian countries stood at 18,205, with an additional 81 from Africa, 1,140 from Europe, 376 from America, 83 from Australia, 19 from New Zealand, and 101 from other nationalities.
In preparation for the season, NCSI has introduced for the first time a self-counting platform to be used by visitors to Salalah, 6 of which have been installed at the Salalah International Airport, and 4 at the Muscat International Airport. Travelers can fill the electronic forms as they pass through the airports in a very simple and convenient way. Additionally, NCSI representatives are available on location 24/7 to provide any required assistance, and once filled, the form data will be made immediately available to the concerned department at Centre through the system.
