Organised by OITE Conferences, under the theme Women Leaders in Business and Corporate, the 2nd edition of the annual Extraordinary Women Conference came to a successful close on 20th May 2014 at Al Bahja Hall, Qurm.
The Conference focused on the role of working women in the corporate world touching upon aspects like entrepreneurship and achievements in different industrial positions, and it served as a platform for nascent entrepreneurs to get connected and nurtured in the field of business
The first day of the Conference saw a host of talented speakers share their perspective on how ordinary women can be extraordinary when it comes to their careers or place in the corporate world. Ms. Nisreen Ahmed Jaffer, Economic Consultant, The Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development, ITHRAA shared her POV on the same citing Career and Family Experiences. Following her Mr. Rashid Al Barwani, Entrepreneurs Conclave 2014 Winner Managing director, RevGX delivered a special guest presentation. Dr. Nada Al-Ajmi, College of Arts, Sultan Qaboos University invited attendees to ponder over whether equality in the workplace was a dream or reality in the present scenario quoting statistical figures. After this a panel discussion moderated by Ms. Lois Wagner saw panelists Ms. Siham Al Zidjali, Ms. Nisreen Jaffer and Dr. Nada Al-Ajmi elaborate ways of encouraging women entrepreneurship. Next Dr. Najma Al Zidjaly, Sultan Qaboos University took attendees on a journey through the literary world, showing them how individuals could balance perspectives and worlds through words. Subsequently Ms. Rym Aoudia, Chief Operations Officer, Knowledge Oman provided attendees insight into how community development could be achieved through passionate leadership.
The second day of the Conference focused on a workshop held under Ms. Lois Wagner, Leadership Development Consultant, Trainer & Executive Coach which aided participants in finding their unique talent, gaining self awareness of their abilities and leading themselves towards professional long term success.
Over 70 potential women entrepreneurs from across the Sultanate made their presence felt at the Conference via their efforts at networking and discussing solutions to holistic progress of women’s place in society.
“Oman has great potential for start-ups and women entrepreneurs to make best use of infrastructure. But there are certain gaps which need to be filled to take budding entrepreneurs to the next level. We hope to support the spirit of entrepreneurship and leadership amongst Omani women and encourage them to unite with successful entrepreneurs and take their skills and confidence to greater heights” says Mr. Zaheer Ahmed, Sr. Manager, OITE Conferences.
The Extraordinary Women Conference 2014 was extremely well received with positive comments from the participants who are already anticipating next year’s edition and some participants have expressed their interest to be a part of the advisory panel for the 3rd edition of EWC.
