In celebration of the mid-Ramadan children’s festival, ‘Garangao’, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) is hosting a fun-filled evening designed to honor the Arabic tradition. This year, the annual event falls on Friday, July 11.
AZF’s festivities will kick off at 8.30pm. Set to take place in the specially constructed Fan Zone at Aspire.
To increase the fun several entities will participate in the Garangao event, Qatar Olympic Committee, Qatar 2015 Organising Committee, Qatar Stars League, Qatar Athletics Federation, Al-Jaish Sports Club and Lekhwiya Sports Club.
“On the 14th day of Ramadan, exactly half way through the fasting period, children put on their traditional outfits, and set out collect sweets and nuts from friends, families, and neighbours,” said AZF Corporate Communications Manager, Nasser Abdullah al-Hajri. “It is a tradition deeply-rooted in Arabic culture that is designed to teach children the art of giving and sharing – an important Ramadan concept. By hosting this event, we, at Aspire Zone, are demonstrating our commitment to upholding the culture and traditions of the Qatari people,” he added.
Al-Hajri continued, encouraging the public to attend the event, “We invite everyone in Qatar to join in the Garangao celebrations on Friday. Last year, thousands of children participated, and this year, we are expecting a similar turnout. There will be a great family atmosphere for all to enjoy.”
The Garangao celebrations are part of Aspire Zone’s Ramadan Festival. The festival, now in its third edition, is in line with AZF’s commitment to providing year-round activities to the local community. This year, activities include a range of sports, social, and religious events that have been designed to be enjoyed by the whole family.
