The Dubai International Humanitarian and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD) had concluded its three days agenda at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Prominent names of Arab and international humanitarian executives and Decision makers attended DIHAD and were pleased with the decisions and agreements that were brought up during this three days conference & exhibition.
DIHAD in its eleventh edition proved to be the largest humanitarian event in the Middle East, as it attracted world’s key decision makers, procurement and logistics officials, NGOs, UN Agencies, Governmental departments and international associations, specialists in the humanitarian industry, in addition to the humanitarian individuals, researchers and academics who came from all parts of the world to benefit from the conference and the interactive sessions held during DIHAD.
HH Sheikh Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Ali bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Al Ihsan Charity Association, and environmental adviser to the Government of Ajman, visited DIHAD Conference and Exhibition on its third day. HH was accompanied by a group of VIPs during his visit to Al Ihsan Charity Association’s pavilion. Al Ihsan is participating in the conference for the fifth consecutive year.
HH Sheikh Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Nuaimi took a tour of the exhibition, where he was accompanied by Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of DIHAD, and HE Chancellor Ibrahim Boumelha, Adviser to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs, Chairman of the Higher Committee – DIHAD.HH Dr. Al Nuaimi also meet HE Ms. Shaima Al Zarooni, CEO of the International Humanitarian City (IHC) and visited the UAE Red Crescent Authority pavilion, where he meet with HE Mohammed Al Zarooni, GM of the Dubai branch of the UAE Red Crescent.
HH Dr. Al Nuaimi also visited Dar Al-Ber Society’s pavilion and listened to its Executive Director presentation about ways for future cooperation. HH Dr. Al Nuaimi made sure to visit the pavilion of Dubai Cooperation for Ambulance Services where he was received by HE Khalifa Aldrai, the CEO of Dubai Ambulance.
The third day’s agenda included important topics that rotated around the women and health in crises and women and education. The conference also hosted special presentations on the importance of the women’s role in decision-making, and the roles and responsibilities of media, which was presented by Ms. Imogen Foulkes, BBC Geneva Correspondent, and Ms. Heba Aly, IRIN reporter.
On the sidelines of DIHAD Conference and Exhibition and International Emergency & Catastrophe Conference and Exhibition, a gala dinner was held at the Grand Hyatt for the distribution of awards in the presence of VIPs in the sector of relief and development. These awards are considered a token of appreciation for the efforts of workers in this field. Awards were given to Government of Dubai Health Authority, Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine, UAE Red Cresent Authority, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Police – Government of Dubai, Coventry University and many more.
Agreement between the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department and the National Academy of Research and Development
On the sidelines of DIHAD Conference & Exhibition, HE Salem Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the National Academy of Research and Development and Dr. Hamad Al Shaibani, Director General of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department signs agreement of cooperation to train people at charitable organizations and institutions.
HE Salem Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the National Academy of Research and Development, said: “The importance of this agreement comes from our commitment to the principles of our religion; we would like to serve the community and help families with modest income so they would be able to support themselves, their families and community.”
From his side, added Mr. Abdullah Al Dalal , Director of Corporate Excellence Department, added: “We aim at the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department to work within the vision of the Strategic Plan 2013-2017 which aims for leadership in charity work and that is through the strategic initiatives and operational projects that aim to develop the charity associations in the emirates of Dubai and the UAE in general.”
DIHAD 2014 – PAM representing parliamentary dimension in humanitarian aid and assistance
PAM’s presence at this important regional conference aims at promoting the role of the parliamentary dimension in humanitarian aid and assistance, to explain PAM’s missions held in the Middle East in connection with the needs of the Syrian civilian population, and to explore further synergies among the major stakeholders in coordinating interventions by the international community”, Amb. Piazzi said.
On the margins of the DIHAD Conference, Amb. Piazzi is holding a series of bilateral meetings in view of the PAM upcoming activity in Antalia, Turkey, within the framework if the 3rd Standing Committee ón Dialogue among Civilizations and Human Rights. The event will be dedicated specifically to Human Trafficking and modern day slavery; The consequences of displacement on women and children in conflicts and PAM’s engagement in Human Rights.
Dar Al Ber Society to support Human Papillomavirus Vaccination (HPV) program in Africa
“Support will help prevent cervical cancer among 2,000 African girls”
The initiative will aim to both vaccinate 2,000 girls with the HPV vaccine, which has been found to be safe and effective in the prevention of cervical cancer caused by select types of HPV, and to increase local capacity by enabling local organizations and institutions to gain critical implementation experience. Dar Al Ber will work in partnership with Axios International, a global consultancy dedicated to increasing patient access to quality healthcare, to implement the vaccination program due to their previous experience implementing similar programs in more than 21 countries across the globe.
In addition to making the vaccines available to girls in need, the Dar Al Ber-supported vaccination program will enable local organizations and institutions to gain operational experience designing and implementing an HPV vaccination program to aid in the development of a future HPV vaccination campaign at the national level.
“This Dar Al Ber vaccination initiative has been designed to have an impact beyond the donation of the vaccines,” said Anas Nofal, Regional Operations Manager, Axios International. “This will be achieved by working closely with local partners to ensure that they gain the critical experience of designing and implementing an HPV vaccination program so that they may apply it to a future national cancer prevention strategy.”
RCFI sign MOU with GRC
Relief and Charitable Foundation of India (RCFI) sign MOU with Global Rohingya Centre (GRC ) mutually to support and rehabilitate to uplift and do all the welfare activities for the Rohangyan (Burmese) refugee in India. RCFI will be the only partner of GRC in India.
Relief and Charitable Foundation of India (RCFI) is an NGO working for the empowerment of under privileged societies of different states in India facilitating the requirements in the area of education, orphan care, water conservation, women empowerment, self-employment programe, and other welfare activities which are in utmost need for the deteriorating society.
In summary of the 11th edition of the DIHAD Conference, Ambassador Gerhard Putman-Cramer, Director of the DIHAD International Scientific Advisory Board, expressed the hope that the positive recommendations resulting from the presentations and discussions will have a positive impact on the life of women in crisis and disaster settings. He welcomed the extensive opportunities for networking provided by the DIHAD sessions, and encouraged transformation of the recommendations into real action.
