Countless families and individuals filling their bags with great summer discounts and offers at Mall of the Emirates, one of the malls of Majid Al Futtaim Properties, were compelled to take a break from their shopping rounds to enjoy the mesmerising spectacle in the form of the Aerial Show.
Held as part of the 17th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), the show drove the entertainment line-up at the mall to new heights as three accomplished aerialists Valeria Baiojacheva, Mario Mira and Tatiana Ruzova took to a height of almost 12 meters during the stunning show.
As the spotlights traced the ground in the galleria, hinting at the start of the show, shoppers began to secure their spots at every level of the mall, to enjoy the best possible views of the aerialists.
After greeting the jam-packed crowd at the ground, the aerialists quickly climbed their way up the silk to an unbelievable height of almost 13 meters and began to weave magic in the air enlivened by upbeat music and colourful lights highlighting their each move – which stepped up the excitement.
Hung upside down, the trio performed numerous daring stunts leaving the audiences completely enthralled. Shoppers were treated to one exciting aerial acrobatics feat after another, including a variety of scissor twists, back flips, inversions, splits, hoops, death drops and many others.
Their agile moves, flawless choreography and synchronized routines left the galleria come alive to the sounds of non-stop rounds of applause as the shoppers stood awestruck in the breath-taking moments that will be etched in their memories forever.
“It is great to be high up in the air and then watch the excited faces underneath. When up there, I feel like a flying fairy whose job is to bring out those smiles to the faces of the people watching her from down. It is a very satisfying profession. At the end of the show, when we see the audience all thrilled, it feels very rewarding,” said Valeria Baiojacheva, who is the head choreographer of the team. She is originally from Russia but has been based in Dubai for the last 14 years, while being a frequent traveller to perform in other countries. “I have grown up in a circus and I cannot imagine my life without this. I love being an aerialist,” she added.
The second aerialist Mario Mira has been performing for the last 8 years. Mario’s background as a dancer is evident through his graceful and elegant postures on the silk. “It takes a lot of strength training to be an aerialist. Once you start doing it for many years, you get used to the height and get comfortable with it,” he said with a smile when asked about how it feels to be hung upside down from heights that most people would find dizzying.
The Aerialist Show at Mall of the Emirates began at 7 August and will run until 15 August at 5pm, 7:30pm and 9:30pm daily.
The Entertainment line-up at other Majid Al Futtaim malls comprise the world premiere of the Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure, which is currently enthralling families at City Centre Mirdif until 17 August and will kick off at City Centre Deira from 21 – 31 August. The three 20-minute live shows at both the malls will be held at 5pm, 7:30pm and 9:30pm.
In addition to the fun-filled shows, shoppers to City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif and Mall of the Emirates have the chance to win up to AED 1 million in prizes, with a minimum purchase of AED 450.
