Goumbook has announced it now offers ‘Give a Ghaf’ eGift Cards through YouGotaGift.com to allow more people to gift a tree to their loved ones, or buy one on their own behalf, in order to help create a greener and healthier environment in the UAE. All proceeds made per eGift Card sold will be given to Goumbook, who will then plant the trees on behalf of the gifter.
Goumbook’s ‘Give a Ghaf’ Tree Planting Program Middle East launched in 2011 with the goal of encouraging people to plant Ghaf trees to protect one of the world’s most valuable symbols of the living desert, which is also the National UAE Tree.
The Ghaf is a multipurpose tree that’s considered a solution to desertification, as it plays an integral part of the food chain in the ecosystem. If it disappears, it could cause the ultimate extinction of other species in the same system, as its flowers, fruits, leaves, bark, branches and roots provide resources and habitat for a variety of native fauna and flora.
Not many people know that the desert is a living ecosystem and that the Ghaf tree is actually the symbol of survival. The tree is an integral part of the local heritage and it has enabled life in the desert for centuries. “Thanks to YouGotaGift.com we are now able to reach the wider community: gifting a tree is the best way to spread love and respect for the local environment,” said Goumbook’s founder Tatiana Antonelli Abella.
YouGotaGift.com offers environmentally friendly eGift Cards from popular stores across the UAE that are delivered electronically by email, sms or Facebook. This reduces the need to waste paper, and the cost of postage and delivery, making the Goumbook partnership a natural fit for the company. Co-founder Husain Makiya shared his thoughts on the initiative by saying, “As exciting as it is to gift someone, it’s even more rewarding to know that you’ve given something back to make the world a better place. This is the first cause initiative we’ve launched on our platform, and we’re looking forward to working with Goumbook.”
