The Pearl-Qatar’s Retail Leasing General Manager Ehab Kamel Sunday welcomed key retailers and shopping developers for a networking gala dinner marking the first opening in Qatar of the Next Generation Networking Reception by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Middle East Council of Shopping Centers (MECSC).
Describing The Pearl-Qatar as one of the main retail and property landmarks to give Qatar an international reputation for middle-end and luxury retail investment, Kamel said that retail offerings at the Island transcend the traditional concept of a shopping center to that of a lifestyle experience second to none in the country.
“We are creating a five-star, service-oriented lifestyle concept designed to offer unique shopping experiences to the discerning Qatari shoppers,” he said. “And with so many shopping malls and centers all around us, we believe we have succeeded in setting ourselves apart.”
While most shopping experiences in Qatar revolve around the concept of the ‘closed mall,’ shopping at The Pearl-Qatar is set around colorful waterfront pedestrian concourses and promenades lined with fine shops, restaurants and cafes.
“Dynamic shopping, dining and residential districts come together at The Pearl-Qatar to create a boulevard-style café culture enriched in recent years with a blend of international mid and mid upper casual fashion brands,” Kamel said. “The focal points are the Piazza and the Promenade, both serving as exotic destinations with exciting international mix of chick mid, mid upper and also luxury retail and dining. From luxury vehicle dealerships and bespoke jewelers to fresh-from-the-catwalk designer wear, shopping avenues at The Pearl-Qatar showcase the very finest shopping experience in the most superb settings that capture the Riviera in a magnificent style.”
Kamel, who serves on the board of MECSC, said that United Development Company and The Pearl-Qatar pledge total support for the council’s outreach activities in Qatar.
“We aspire to support these initiatives and also to benefit from the unparalleled international business exposure that membership in MECSC brings while we aim at new heights in marketing the retail avenues at the Island, particularly with the impending launch of our new shopping district at Medina Central,” he said.
The Pearl-Qatar is an active sponsor of international retail and retail investment exhibitions and networking events. As a mixed-use urban development, it offers a varied mix of retail as well as real estate investment opportunities and is a regular at global networking events designed to link retail developers with regional and international investors.
The evening also included speakers representing the ICSC and the MECSC. Addressing the attending retailers and developers, David Macadam, Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman, MECSC, and Mohammad Iqbal Alawi, Chief Executive Officer at Red Sea Markets Company, KSA, highlighted the ICSC’s and MECSC’s contributions to retail and retail development in the region and discussed initiatives aimed at promoting the development of the retail sector in the Middle East.
Founded in 1957, ICSC is the premier global trade association of the shopping center industry. Its nearly 60,000 members in about 90 countries include shopping center owners, developers, managers, marketing specialists, investors, retailers and brokers, as well as academics and public officials.
The Middle East Council of Shopping Centres, is the regional body representing shopping mall owners, marketing managers, leasing managers and specialty retailers, consultants, property financiers, accountants, government officials, and industry suppliers. Operating since 1994, the MECSC is a voluntary body, governed by a Board and Executive Committee.
