Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate Campaign in collaboration with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry will host the lecture ‘My Work Does Not Affect My Motherhood’, set to take place on Monday 12th of May, the event forms part of its efforts to support nursing working mothers through the creation of baby and mother-friendly workplaces and public places.
The Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate Campaign seeks through its various initiatives and activities to inspire and promote the creation of Baby-Friendly healthcare facilities, Mother-Friendly workplaces, baby-friendly nurses, and mother and baby-friendly public places, so as to support nursing mothers and encourage them to continue to breastfeed their babies.
The event, which features a parent talk, discussion and lecture, will be presented by Professor Dimitri Christakis, a paediatrician and researcher at the University of Washington, and Director of the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Children’s Research Institute.
Prof Dimitri will explore how early experience affect infants’ brain development and will look at a range of topics, including early brain development, how overstimulation during infancy can lead to diminished attention capacity, and how positive stimulation can affect language development.
At the conclusion of the event, a new nursery will be opened for children of working mothers at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is among the first government organisations that have supported the Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate campaign, and has been officially accredited as a Baby and Mother friendly place for its contribution to the creation of nurseries for the children of working mothers and fathers thus, supporting the campaign in providing the ideal environment for mothers and children, while also contributing to empowering women to succeed in their work and help them achieve a balance between their work and falmily responsibilities.
The Sharjah Baby Friendly Emirate Campaign was launched in March 2012 under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and under the generous patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
The campaign is aimed at creating a better and healthier environment for future generations, and hence it aspires to ensure that all health facilities, establishments, nurseries, workplaces and public places provide a healthy environment for babies and mothers, with the aim of Sharjah becoming totally baby-friendly by 2015.
