Qatar Foundation’s Social Development Center (SDC) has announced its “BADR WA INT GADR” program (meaning “take the initiative” and “you can”) is featuring at the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open staring December 30 and the Qatar Total Open for Women in February 2014.
The Badr program provides entrepreneurial support for individuals and families and this is the fifth consecutive year SDC has partnered with the Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF). Participation in various traditional crafts and products will be promoted during the tournaments including: making wooden ships, accessories and embedded boxes; traditional cuisine and Henna.
Lolwa Al-Naimi, The Head of Entrepreneurs Development, SDC, expressed her gratitude to QTF saying: “The Badr program is honored to participate at QTF events. QTF has thankfully allocated free spaces for the program’s activities to promote traditional crafts and local products. Our participation in these events comes in line with our commitment to help strengthen and diversify our economy through supporting family entrepreneurial projects.”
The Qatar Exxon Mobil Open is one of Qatar’s major sporting events, annually hosting the world’s top tennis stars. The tournament is held in January each year at the Khalifa international tennis and squash complex, which includes a VIP village containing shops, medical services and information kiosks.
The Badr program provides full support for entrepreneurial projects by individuals and families alike across Qatar, by assisting them to develop successful enterprises and offering a range of services that support productive families to ensure the continuity of their success. Some of these services include training, marketing, administrative support, motivation, encouragement and funding. The Badr program was initially launched in 2002 under the name (The Modern Family Program) and rebranded in 2012 to Badr wa int Gadr, meaning “take the initiative” and “you can” which are key messages to all the program members.
