Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality has urged the residents of the emirate of Dubai to help needy people around the world improve their living conditions through spreading the message of Dubai International Award for Best Practices (DIABP).

DIABP was launched by Mr. Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General in 1995 and completely sponsored by HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler and Minister of Finance of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Municipality.

Lootah said that as the civic body has announced 1st March 2014 as the deadline for submitting preliminary entries for the 10th cycle of DIABP which will be held in October 2014, each member of the society can volunteer to spread the message of this noble award through all available channels of communication.

‘Dubai is proud to host such a humanitarian award since its inception aimed at improving the living conditions of poor and needy people all over the world. Since 1995, numerous good and best practices have been collected from 140 countries and recognized through its previous cycles with utmost transparency and goodwill in the selection of right candidates,’ he said.

‘Being a cosmopolitan city that accommodates more than 200 nationalities, Dubai residents can effectively disseminate the message to the entire world through different traditional and social media channels helping the civic body find out most suitable candidates for the 10th cycle of DIABP,’ he hopped.

‘Eight winners will receive a cash award of $30,000 each and honoring shield in two categories of ‘Best Practices’ and ‘Best Practices Transfer’ awards, while two winners in the category of ‘University Research’ will receive a cash award of $ 15,000 each, in addition to a trophy and a commemorative certificate especially designed for the award for winners in private sector and personal achievement,’ explained Mr. Ismail Banna, Director of Partnership Department at Dubai Municipality.

‘All entries are documented and disseminated through the best practices database, which is a free online resource. At each cycle, an independent committee of technical experts (Technical Advisory Committee) identifies Good and Best Practices and prepares a shortlist to be presented to an International Jury for selection of the award winners,’ Banna said.

‘Residents who wish to support this noble initiative of Dubai Municipality can visit and like its social media pages and spread it via their personal accounts,’ he added.
