MoW’s Undersecretary Eng. Waleed Al Saei met with the Ministry of Interior’s Undersecretary Major General Khalid Salem Al Absi. The meeting was attended by the Roads Assistant Undersecretary Eng. Huda Fakhro, the General Director of the Traffic General Directorate Shaikh Nasser bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa, Roads Planning & Design Director Eng. Kadhim Abdul Latif, the Traffic Culture Director Colonel Moosa Al Dossari and Officer Khalid Mubarak from the Traffic General Directorate.
During the meeting, a number of traffic related issues were highlighted, which were already approved by the Traffic Supreme Council; headed by the Minister of Interior HH Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa. Amongst the issues highlighted was the Traffic Safety National Plan, where Major General Al Absi highlighted the Traffic General Directorate’s recommendation to update only the details and maintain the general layout of the plan.
MoW’s Undersecretary reiterated the need to update the plan due to the urban boom in the Kingdom and the increase in the number of vehicles and intersections. MoW’s Undersecretary and the Ministry of Interior’s Undersecretary also discussed the advertising campaign for the new traffic law, where they highlighted the need to have such a campaign to inform people about the new traffic law and it role in increasing safety levels and control behaviors on the road.
Major General Al Absi discussed the suggestion to re-activate the Public Committee for Safety on the Road, which hugely contributed to spreading and establishing traffic safety culture. He also highlighted the suggestion to put in place an analytical scientific study on traffic accidents with the joint efforts of the Ministry of Works and Bahrain University.
The General Director of the Traffic General Directorate Shaikh Nasser bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa requested the Ministry of Works to determine a mechanism to involve the Traffic General Directorate in the evaluation of projects implemented by the Ministry of Works. Roads Assistant Undersecretary Huda Fakhro stressed that all initial concepts for all strategic projects and future public roads will be discussed with the Traffic General Directorate to involve them in the evaluation of projects.
The meeting also highlighted the need to employ modern techniques in the field of traffic safety, the most important of which are the intelligent transport systems and cameras to control speeding and prevent fatal accidents resulting from speed.
