Vinson & Elkins LLP has promoted corporate attorney Ziad Saad to counsel, strengthening the firm’s Middle East practice. Saad, who splits his time between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, works extensively in all areas of corporate and international capital markets.
“Ziad is a very talented lawyer and we are thrilled to see him advance into this new role as counsel, where we know he will continue to make valuable contributions to the firm’s practice in the region,” said Ahmed el-Gaili, head of V&E’s UAE offices. “We remain focused on providing our Middle East clients the exceptional service they have come to expect from V&E, and this promotion fortifies our capabilities in this region and affirms our long-term commitment to growing our practice,” he added.
Saad has broad-based international corporate experience throughout the Middle East and Europe, advising corporate, private equity and financial institution clients on various domestic and cross-border acquisitions (both buy-side and sell-side, including in auction) and joint ventures in a wide range of industries, as well as on ongoing corporate and securities law matters. Saad has also advised issuers and underwriters in connection with equity and debt offerings, including initial public offerings, rights issues and privatizations.
Among his recent transactions, Saad advised on a multi-billion dollar petrochemical joint venture in Saudi Arabia and its energy-related projects, and represented an aviation corporate group based in the Middle East region in connection with a series of acquisition transactions of aviation-related companies in the region. Additionally, he counseled a UAE portfolio company of an international private equity firm on various corporate transactions in the region and advised a leading private equity firm in the Middle East on the listing of its portfolio company on the London Stock Exchange. He also advised on the acquisition of a minority stake in a major Lebanese bank.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to take on this new responsibility as counsel and am committed to further strengthening the firm’s Middle East practice,” Saad said. “V&E is home to some of the best corporate and energy lawyers in the world and I am honored to take this next step in my career while working alongside such a talented group of lawyers,” he added.
Prior to joining V&E in 2010, Saad was a senior associate in the London and Dubai offices of Ashurst LLP. He has also previously practiced as an associate in the Paris office of Shearman & Sterling LLP. He holds an LL.B. degree from Saint-Joseph University in Lebanon and earned an LL.M. degree from Georgetown University in the United States. He is dual qualified in Lebanon and New York.
