In response to the widespread use of arbitration for resolving disputes in international business transactions, the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), an initiative of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is organising a ‘Practical Techniques for Handling International Commercial Arbitration Cases’ training course at the Chamber’s premises from September 22 to 24.

The three-day intensive training course, organised in collaboration with the Centre for the Transnational Law (Central) Cologne University, Germany, for the sixth consecutive year, targets lawyers, government officials, business executives, young practitioners and other individuals interested in familiarising themselves with alternative dispute resolution techniques.

The training course will be conducted by Professor Dr Klaus Peter Berger, Professor at the Centre for Transnational Law, University of Cologne and President of the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS), and Mr Victor Leginsky, a Chartered Arbitrator and CEDR certified Mediator. The Training course will inform and familiarise participants of the techniques in handling international commercial arbitration, while gaining insight into the evolving issues in the world of international arbitration.

The course, consisting of practical and interactive teaching concepts, including interactive exercises, workshops and mock cases, will contribute towards the participants’ self-development in becoming a prospective arbitrator. The participants will be provided with a course certificate upon completion of this training course.

The Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) is a prominent arbitration centre in the Middle East. It was initially established by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Dubai Chamber) in 1994 as the Centre for Commercial Conciliation and Arbitration. The DIAC is a non-profit institution that is independent in its operations from both the Dubai Government and the Dubai Chamber. DIAC provides efficient and impartial administration of commercial disputes.

Located in the heart of Dubai at the Dubai Chamber’s headquarters, DIAC provides local and international business communities with commercial arbitration services, including modern and well equipped meeting and hearing rooms. DIAC has also developed a pool of experienced arbitrators from different nationalities and legal backgrounds.
