NATO’s Head of Operations to speak at Qatar’s largest maritime security conference
QMARSEC 2014, Qatar’s largest maritime security conference, will focus on Maritime Domain Awareness – the Steps to Maritime Security. This year the QMARSEC Committee is extremely proud to announce that Mr. Michel Soula, the Head of NATO’s Operations Section, will speak to the conference delegates.
Mr. Soula is currently in charge of all NATO Operations worldwide, excluding Afghanistan. He has been directly involved with assisting in various international crises and is an instrumental part of maritime security operations, including operations in Kosovo and Libya.
“Maritime security is an issue of high priority to NATO. We value opportunities to exchange views on emerging threats facing the civilian and military maritime communities in the region,” explained Mr. Soula. Next year, Qatar will host the NATO General Conference in 2015. It will be the first time the NATO conference has been held in the Middle East.
Staff Brigadier (Pilot) Mohammed A. AL-Mannai, Director, Qatar National Security Shield Project, stated, “QMARSEC 2014 will be a valuable platform to learn more about maritime domain awareness, offshore patrol vehicles and unmanned systems roles in maritime security.”
Matthew Cochran, Chairman of the Defense Services Marketing Council (DSMC), which officially organizes QMARSEC, said, “This is a very unique opportunity for delegates attending QMARSEC to learn valuable insights from current operators in this maritime space and recognize the important contributions made by Qatar and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a whole to maritime security in the region.”
The annual conference is the largest of its kind for Qatar and is hosted by the Qatar National Security Shield (NSS) project and officially supported by the Qatar Ministry of Interior and the Qatar Armed Forces.
The QMARSEC 2014 Conference will take place on October 14th and 15th in Doha, Qatar, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.
