Oman GDP grows by 2.8% in 2013
The Gross Domestic Production (GDP) of Oman at producers prices recorded a growth of 3.4% at the end of 2013, amounting to 31,837.1m R.O, compared with 30,799.1m R.O at the end of 2012. Meanwhile, GDP at market prices which takes into account taxes and subsidies rose by 2.8% at the end of 2013, when compared with the 2012 total figure.
The GDP total amounted to 30,627.7m R.O at the end of 2013, compared with the 29,797.7m R.O total recorded in 2012. During the same period, financial intermediation services indirectly measured (FISIM) grew by 6% recording 612.6m R.O by the end of 2013, compared with 578.1m R.O at the end of 2012. In addition, taxes less subsidies on products grew to 1,209.4m R.O at the end of 2013, compared with 1,001.4m R.O by the end of 2012, representing a growth of 20.8%.
Statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) revealed a 1% decrease in total petroleum activities, totaling 15,220.1m R.O by the end of 2013 against the 2012 total of 15,369.1m R.O. The decrease is attributed to a drop in the total value of crude oil production of 1.4%, totaling 14,053.0m R.O at the end of 2013, versus the 2012 total of 14,250.1m R.O. On the other hand, the total value of natural gas production rose by 4.3% at the end of 2013, recording 1,167.1m R.O compared with 1,119.0m R.O at the end of 2012.
According to the NCSI figures, total non-petroleum activities grew by 7.6% in 2013, reaching 17,229.6m R.O, compared with the 2012 total of 16,008.1m R.O. Non-petroleum activities include; agriculture and fishing which grew by 8.6%, recording 388.1m R.O at the end of 2013, compared with 357.3m R.O recorded at the end of 2012. In addition, Industrial activities totaled 5,404.3m R.O by the end of 2013, representing a 2.8% growth. The industrial activities category includes mining & quarrying, manufacturing, electricity & water supply, building and construction.
Separately, service activities recorded a growth of 10% at the end of 2013, totaling 11,437.2m R.O compared with 10,395.9m R.O. The service category includes wholesale & retail trade, hotels & restaurants transport, storage & communication, financial intermediation, real estate services, public administration & and other services.
