In attendance were HE Sheikh Mohammed Bin Saud Al Qassimi, Eng Sultan Bin Abdulla Al Mualla, Eng Khalifa Al Tunaiji, Dr Saleh Taher Al Haj and Abdulla Sherief, along with other senior government officials, Halcrow management and representatives from several Sharjah-based contractors.

Following a presentation on behalf of the Sharjah Government, Halcrow’s regional managing director for the Middle East, Mr David Yaw stated, “The visionary plans of HH the Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi have led to the transformation of Sharjah into the thriving emirate it is today. At Halcrow, we are very proud to have served the Government of Sharjah over the last 40 years and contributed to this achievement.”

UK-based consultancy Halcrow has contributed to most of the major infrastructure developments in the city, on the east coast and in the rural areas. Projects include highways, bridges and more recently tunnels; lagoons, drainage and sewage treatment works; the university; the airport; Sharjah, Hamriyah and Khor Fakkan ports, and coastal protection; as well as countless other projects.

A chartered civil engineer, Mr Manning will replace retiring Mr Farrer as regional director for Sharjah. Mr Manning has been in the engineering profession for 25 years, 12 of them with Halcrow. He has worked on highway and airport projects in the Middle East, Hong Kong, South America and UK. He personally led the major project for the highway improvements on King Abdul Aziz Road in Sharjah.

Mr Farrer retires after a 36 year career spent almost entirely in the UAE. Reflecting on an eventful 11 years as regional director for Sharjah, he commented, “I spent a third of my entire career in Sharjah – and I can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute of it.”

Mr Yaw thanked the Sharjah Government for its continued confidence in Halcrow over the last 40 years. “This is one of the longest client relationships we have anywhere in the world. And today, the Government of Sharjah is Halcrow’s third largest client globally.”
