Car enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice on the Hyundai stand at this year’s Dubai International Motor Show. The popular Korean brand will unveil its best ever line-up at the Middle East’s top motoring event, highlighted by regional debuts for the stunning HCD-14 Genesis concept and the i20 WRC. Also making their Middle East debuts will be the New 2014 Centennial Limousine and the eagerly anticipated Veloster Turbo, on display in the company’s Premium and Performance zones respectively.
Heading the line-up at this year’s motor show is the striking HCD-14 Genesis concept. With innovative features, such as optical recognition and interactive 3-D gesture recognition, the HCD-14 Genesis provides a glimpse into the future of Hyundai premium design. Named North American Concept Car of the Year on its only previous outing at this year’s North American International Auto Show, the HCD-14 is set to be a real head turner in Dubai.
The HCD-14 Genesis conveys a fluidic-precision, liquid-metal design language. Craftsmanship quality is conveyed via gemstone-like design surfaces. A bold front fascia surrounds brushed metal grille surfaces with a deep vertical grille opening. The corners of the rear hood incorporate heat extractor design accents that integrate seamlessly with exterior mirror design. From the side view silhouette, classic rear-drive sport sedan proportions are evident, while large wheels were developed from a mix of premium lightweight alloys with carbon fibre surrounding the voided areas of the wheel design.
Opening the rear door reveals a rear-hinged configuration, with a single, oversized, brushed-aluminum hinge articulating diagonally from the rear door cutline. But it is the driver’s position where the model’s technological innovation breaks new ground. Ergonomics engineers eliminated the traditional centre stack, developing an intuitive controls layout devoid of intimidating clusters of buttons and knobs.
Using state-of-the-art driver eye-tracking and 3-D hand-gesture recognition, HCD-14 Genesis is able to recognize driver commands. Once a specific feature is selected via eye-tracking, thumb controls or gesture recognition can then be used to select functions such as navigation, infotainment and even smartphone connectivity. This intuitive interface provides the driver with complete control while keeping his eyes safely on the road – a heads-up display (HUD) further minimising driving distraction.
Another unique model being showcased on the Hyundai stand is the i20 WRC, which will feature in Hyundai’s return to the World Rally Championship (WRC). It has been enduring tests around the world ahead of the start of the 2014 WRC and visitors to the Hyundai stand will get their first chance to get a close up look at this new, 1.6L turbocharged racer.
The limousine version of Hyundai’s flagship premium model, the New 2014 Centennial, will also be appearing for the first time in the Middle East. The New 2014 Centennial Limousine houses everything you would expect from a premium limousine, and is particularly well-suited to the Gulf markets. All the features which have been so positively received in the New 2014 Centennial are present in the limousine version, along with an added 285 mm of leg room to provide even more comfort and practicality.
The unveil of the Veloster Turbo is another exciting event that will take place on the Hyundai stand this year. Boasting a 1.6 turbo GDI engine producing 204hp as well as a number of stylish design upgrades over the standard model, the turbo has been one of the most highly anticipated recent Hyundai models to arrive in the Middle East, and will go on sale in the region over the coming months.
Vice President and Head of Hyundai Africa & Middle East Headquarter, Tom Lee commented: “With the Dubai International Motor Show being the biggest motor show in the Middle East, and bearing in mind Hyundai’s rapidly increasing popularity across the region, we have ensured that we won’t be holding back in our efforts to make this year’s stand our best ever. And with no less than four regional debuts, by four very different cars, visitors to the Hyundai stand will certainly be in for a real treat.”
A wide range of other models from Hyundai will also be present on the stand. The SUV zone will feature the popular Santa Fe alongside the recently launched Grand Santa Fe and new 2014 Tucson. The Genesis and Genesis Coupe will join the New 2014 Centennial Limousine in the Premium zone, while the ever-popular sedans, the Accent, Elantra, Sonata and Azera, will also be on show along with some of the company’s mid-sized models, the i30 and i40.
